Sermon Text: 2 Samuel 9:1-13 1. David said, “Is there still anyone left from the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” 2. There was a servant of Saul’s house named Ziba. When he was called to David, the king asked, “Are you Ziba?” He answered, “Your servant.” 3. Then the king asked, “Is there still anyone left from the house of Saul, that I may show God’s kindness to him?” Ziba answered, “Jonathan has a son who is lame in his feet.” 4. The king asked him, “Where is he?” Ziba replied, “He is in the house of Machir son of Ammiel, from Lo-debar.” 5. King David sent and brought him from the house of Machir son of Ammiel, from Lo-debar. 6. Then Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, Saul’s grandson, came to David and bowed down before him. David said, “Mephibosheth, And he said, "Here is your servant." 7. David said to him, "Do not be afraid; I will surely show you kindness for your father Jonathan's sake. I will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather, and you will always eat bread at my table." 8. He bowed down and said, "What is your servant, that you should look upon such a dead dog as I am?" 9. Then the king called Ziba, Saul's servant, and said to him, "I have given your master's son everything that belongs to Saul and to all his household. 10. You and your sons and your servants shall till the land for him, and bring in the harvest so that your master's son may eat. But your master's son Mephibosheth shall always eat bread at my table." Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants. 11. Ziba said to the king, "Your servant will do everything my lord the king has commanded his servant." Mephibosheth would eat at the king's table like one of the king's sons. He ate. 12. Mephibosheth had a young son named Micah. Everyone who lived in Ziba's house was Mephibosheth's servant. 13. Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, because he ate regularly at the king's table. He was lame in both feet.
