Music Education: Creating a Canon as Diverse as We Are | Paul Rose | TEDxCSU
Our current music curriculum is based on a white-centric canon that has been perpetuated for decades. In this talk, Paul Rose will break down and challenge the current curriculum, and propose what a truly inclusive music education can look like. Paul Rose is a senior at Colorado State University, working towards a BA in Music with a minor in Business Administration. From an early age, music has been an integral part of Paul’s life and shaped his views on what togetherness really means. Growing up in Pueblo, CO, Paul was able to see and experience the hardships that many minoritized students face in our modern-day education system. These experiences culminated when starting college at CSU. At CSU Paul was able to explore his passion towards challenging white-centric norms, especially when it comes to education. With the support of those with shared values, Paul continues to work towards a collective effort for long-overdue change This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
