HIT SUBSCRIBE & the BELL set to RINGING for NOTIFICATIONS! 00:00 Intro Hams are tinkerers by nature and many of us can remember the “old days” of building equipment such as from Heathkit. But many of us bemoan that the days of solid-state pushed kit building to the sideline. Not true. The kit market has morphed and is as lively today as in the past. 00:15 Ed intros Neil & his credentials Neil Goldstein W2DNG takes us on a tour of the radio kit market and offers some tips and tricks for acquiring and building both old and new kits. 02:22 Neil begins Neil has been tinkering with radios since the early seventies when he used to hang out in his uncle’s ham shack in Connecticut (W1PVC/SK). 03:52 We begin.... These days he can be found in the Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountains with a #QRP radio, or sitting at his #workbench amidst a cloud of #solder smoke. After first getting licensed in 2011 as KD2APZ, he started looking for ways to merge his two hobbies: computers and radio. Now, a holder of an Extra Class license, he experiments with #SDR, rig control, digital modes, and has a well-used #soldering iron. 06:24 Random kit examples He has been a #SWL for most of his life and finally decided to get his license in August of 2011. His better-half, KD2CHE is also a ham. 07:07 Surface mounts.. Nori, his monster Tabby Cat that was displayed here before passed in the Fall of 2014. He will be missed. Neil works as an IT systems manager at a cancer research institute. 09:11 Breadboard Neil is active in the #OMARC, and #QSY Society clubs, has written for #AmateurRadio.com as well as The #Spectrum Monitor, and frequently presents at various club meetings on computer-related subjects. He maintains #radiokitguide.com, the complete list of radio kit sources on the Internet. 10:04 "Pittsburgh" Neil maintains radiokitguide.com, the complete list of radio kit sources on the Internet. http://fofio.blogspot.com/2021/07/tod... * 10:57 TOOLS! 13:50 Spectrum Analyzer 14:27 Hot holder 15:13 Sodering Iron 15:49 Pliers 16:21 Magnifiers 17:04 The Silicone Mat 17:30 What to build? 17:32 Beginner "Stuff" 18:55 Lil Squall 19:14 Splinter II 19:33 Intermediate! 20:35 Rock Mite II 21:44 ADVANCED 22:23 RTFM!!!! 24:00 LONG BUILD Expert Level! 25:18 Sienna - DZ Kits 25:24 Companies 25:25 4 S Q R P 25:43 The Cricket 26:04 Nouveau 75 26:30 Aliexpress.com 27:51 Pacific Antenna 28:50 QRPHamRadioKits - EA3GCY 30:07 MFJ - Vectronics 30:24 QRPme 31:24 Tony Dash-5-Dash 32:26 Walford 33:39 Breadboard Radio 34:42 QRP Guys 38:45 HF Signals 39:19 W.
