Orlando Fals Borda reminisces about his brief stint in the military before going to the United States, where he began studying English literature. Later, upon returning to Colombia, he turned to sociology, first through a project for the Ministry of Education in Vianí, Cundinamarca, and then during the construction of the Sisga Dam.
