Was Chuck Yeager the First to Break the Sound Barrier?

If you're an aviation nut (and I am guilty as charged) you probably know that Chuck Yeager was the first to officially break the sound barrier in the Bell X-1. But what about unofficially? Going all the way back to World War II, we had rocket planes and jet fighters already vying for that honor -- and some say one or more of them may have succeeded. Today we're going to find out.
