Porto - Stadt am Douro - Transtour mit AIDAsol - November 2022

We are in Porto taking a bus tour, a guided tour of a port winery with tasting, and taking a boat tour on the Douro River. To get a good overview of the city, we decided to book an excursion from AIDA: The excursion LEX02: "Porto by water and land" sounded promising, but was also a bit more expensive with 75 €. By bus we start at the ship and drive along the Atlantic coast towards Vila Nova de Gaia and Porto. The two cities are located on the banks of the Douro opposite each other, together form the metropolitan region of Porto and are home to almost 2 million people. Vila Nova de Gaia is where the world famous port wine is produced, taking its name from the city of Porto, from where it is exported all over the world. We visit the port winery Burmester, get a guided tour of the winery with extensive explanations about the production of port wine, its characteristics and categories (Ruby, Tawny, White) and are allowed to taste afterwards. Afterwards we walk down to the riverbank of the Douro. From there you have an excellent view of the old town district "Ribeira" of Porto. Here starts our boat tour, which first goes up the Douro. The city of Porto on the north bank and the city of Vila Nova de Gaia, on the south bank of the Douro, are connected by a total of six bridges. Historically and touristically most important is the arch bridge Ponte Dom Luís, designed by Théophile Seyrig, in the historic center. Furthermore, the railroad bridge Ponte Maria Pia crosses the Douro, which was constructed by Seyrig together with his teacher Gustave Eiffel even before the construction of the Eiffel Tower. There are also two highway bridges, a road bridge and another railroad bridge over the river. After we have reached the last of the 6 bridges upstream, we go in the opposite direction once under all 6 bridges until we can see the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Douro. Afterwards we go back to the pier. We continue by bus to the next stop at the upper level of the Ponte Dom Luís. Here again you have an excellent view over Porto and the old town quarter "Ribeira". Afterwards, the bus takes you across the city center back to the ship. This video belongs to the tour "Warnemünde to Gran Canaria", on which I have been in November 2022 with the AIDAsol. The trip led from Warnemünde via Copenhagen, Dover, A Coruña, Porto, Lisbon and Lanzarote to Gran Canaria. A brilliant route, very varied cities and also neat route from northern Germany to southern Spain.
