An Introduction to The Royal Ballet’s Romeo and Juliet

Two households both alike in dignity in fair Verona where we lay our scene. Shakespeare’s timeless tale of star-crossed lovers and two feuding families is transformed in founding choreographer Kenneth MacMillan’s production, which celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2025. In this introduction to the modern ballet classic, artists of The Royal Ballet ruminate on MacMillan’s groundbreaking choreography. Senior Stage Manager Johanna Adams Farley explains how The Royal Ballet stages such a large production, with behind-the-scenes insights and a look at how the company brings Verona to life through complex group scenes.
