Relationships often held the key to my sense of happiness, which seemed to crumble when things went awry. But the key revelation came when I started to see happiness as a default state, clouded by layers of personal and emotional baggage. In the midst of a troubled marriage, I noticed that external validation was my primary source of happiness. It wasn’t until I endured the pain of separation and faced my own emotions that I understood the futility of relying on others for happiness. Through philosophical and spiritual readings, including the Tao Te Ching, I uncovered the "Misery Engine" theory — a way to conceptualize the hidden machinery pulling my happiness down. 🎡 Why do we continue to feed into this Misery Engine? The societal and personal pressures telling us that happiness is something to be acquired externally create a loop of continuous dissatisfaction. This pursuit can lead to the hedonic treadmill, where one constantly chases new highs only to return to a baseline of discontent. 🌅 Yet, moments of genuine happiness still punctuated my life, even during the darkest times. These moments, I realized, were not due to a significant external change but because I momentarily forgot to be miserable. This was a turning point — recognizing that the absence of misery led to a natural state of calm contentment. I propose a shift from external acquisition to internal resolution. By focusing on and evaporating sources of unhappiness, such as past traumas or negative self-beliefs, one can gradually achieve a stable, mature form of happiness. 🧘♀️ Mature happiness is enduring, internally generated, and resilient to life's storms. Through acceptance and grieving, healing began. The real freedom lay in releasing resentment and understanding that holding onto pain only fueled my own misery. By letting go, I was able to restore happiness as my default state. This journey has taught me that happiness is less about doing or having and more about being — being free from the internal battles that obscure our inherent state of well-being. Join me in this exploration, and perhaps you'll find that the happiness you've been seeking has been within you all along. 🌼 #Happiness #MentalHealth #PersonalGrowth #Mindfulness #Wellbeing #Acceptance #LettingGo 💬
