In a recent Ruslan KD interview, former Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz openly mocks small churches, questions their discipleship, and claims critics of megachurch culture are simply “insecure” or “unable to grow a church.” In this video, we break down his comments with Scripture, New Testament examples, and the true biblical model of church leadership. Jesus never measured success by numbers. In John 6, Jesus actually loses the crowd because He preached truth, not comfort. Paul said he and the apostles were treated as the “scum of the earth” (1 Corinthians 4:13). The early church met in small house gatherings, not arenas. And Scripture warns that in the last days people will gather teachers to suit their itching ears (2 Timothy 4:3). This isn’t a criticism of “big churches” for being big.
