NEPSI Tech Talk Session 37: Medium-Voltage Harmonic Filter Resistors 101 (Post Glover Resistors)

In this week’s Tech Talk #37 NEPSI is pleased to welcome Steve Fisher, Regional Sales Manager and Application Engineer from Post Glover. Steve will be discussing medium-voltage harmonic filter resistors. These resistors are utilized within NEPSI’s metal-enclosed harmonic filter solutions for resonance dampening, a critical function in shaping the impedance characteristics of High-Pass (HP) and C-High-Pass (C-HP) type harmonic filters. NEPSI will first do a factory walkthrough showing off a Post Glover Filter Resistor on our factory floor. We will show you how they are constructed and applied within our equipment and provide a “refresher” on why & how Post Glover’s resistors are utilized in NEPSI’s Metal-Enclosed Filter Solutions. We will explore the concept of damping factor and discuss how filter resistors change the filtering characteristics of harmonic filters. We will also touch upon how damping factor impacts resistor watt ratings. Steve will be discussing Post Glover’s HPR Grid Resistors, their inductance, cold resistance vs. hot resistance, their non-magnetic characteristics, corrosion resistance, voltage rating concepts, coefficient of resistivity, and the impact of air quality and altitude on performance.
