El SEAT Ibiza CUPRA de los 70' - SEAT 1200 Sport Bocanegra a PRUEBA

Today we're getting behind the wheel of a very different car than the ones we usually feature on the channel. Our friends at SEAT Históricos have lent us a SEAT 1200 Sport, the legendary Bocanegra, from their collection to accompany Motor Clásico on a trip through the Rioja Alavesa region. This is the perfect excuse to analyze the grandfather of the SEAT Ibiza Cupra, a youthful and sporty car that combined the mechanics of the SEAT 124 with the chassis of the 127. Its design was initially created for NSU by Aldo Sessano and it was produced in Terrassa by Inducar, from where the bodies were sent to SEAT for assembly of the engines and interiors. Presented to the press in December 1975, with sales beginning in 1976, the Bocanegra offered a 1.2-liter, 4-cylinder engine producing 67 hp. Later, at the end of 1977, the 1430 arrived with 77 hp. It weighed 805 kg, its fuel tank offered a small capacity of 30 liters, and its dimensions were 3,660 mm long, 1,550 mm wide, and 1,240 mm high. Its fuel consumption? Around 9.5 l/100 km, with a 0 to 100 km/h time of almost 15 seconds and a top speed close to 160 km/h. Production ceased in 1979 with 19,322 units produced. The price at the time was 270,000 pesetas, and its main rivals included the Renault 5 TS, the Simca 1200 Ti, and the Ford Fiesta S.
