How to get married in Holland: your civil wedding - What is an application to marry?

Provided you live in The Netherlands, the 1st step for your civil wedding is to do the wedding application at the municipality where you want to be married. You apply a maximum of 1 year and a minimum of 2 weeks beforehand, except in case of severe illness. Note: You can only have a civil wedding when living in The Netherlands, or when living abroad with at least one of the partners being Dutch. Bring your ID/passport and those of your witnesses, if needed birth certificates, a statement of not being married and/or a declaration of a marriage of convenience.
