Remembering Stephen Lewis: A Tribute to a Comedy Legend
Please join me in this video, Remembering Stephen Lewis: A Tribute to a Comedy Legend. You might not know his name, but chances are if you're a fan of vintage British comedy you'll certainly know his face! Stephen Lewis became primarily known for his portrayal of Cyril "Blakey" Blake - the fault-finding, grumbling bus inspector in the hit vintage comedy On the Buses or as the Clem "Smiler" Hemmingway perpetually unhappy and none too clever in a similar way to Blakey! Stephen Lewis was a protege of the Mother of Modern Theatre - Joan Littlewood. Under Joan Littlewood's guidance, while attending the theatre at Stratford East, he completely changed his life becoming not only a brilliant actor on stage, film, and television but also an accomplished Playwright. Please join me as I visit the final resting place of this wonderful actor and writer at St Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Leytonstone, East London. We remember his catchphrase 'I ate you Butler' and take a look at his career and the character he played so well! Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.
