Beeswax and Pine Tar Knife Sheath Leather Treatment
Improving the water resistance of a leather knife sheath with a mixture of beeswax, pine tar, and some other stuff. Originally, the mixture in the can was about three parts beeswax to one part pine tar. But I was concerned that it was too brittle at room temperature so I later added in a few tablespoons of linseed oil, a few tablespoons of mineral oil, and a little squirt of pure lanolin. This seems to provide a good water resistant finish that is flexible enough not to crack or chip and isn't too greasy when handling the leather. The knife seen here is a Bark RIver Fox River II LT, in CPM-3V steel.
