The Most Dangerous Grizzly Bear Encounter!

In this episode of Endless Venture, Riley and I take one of our biggest risks yet. Deep in the heart of grizzly country, a ranch manager friend told me about an elk carcass that had been taken down by a massive male bear. We knew right away it was a dangerous situation — grizzlies are incredibly defensive of a meal like that, especially one that can fuel them for days and help pack on those crucial calories before hibernation. Still, we decided to move in carefully and set camera traps around the carcass, hoping to capture behavior that few people ever get to see up close. The entire time, the bear wasn’t far — he watched us from the shadows, waiting for his chance to return. Despite the fact that grizzlies are typically apt to defend a carcass, this big male showed an unusual level of tolerance, retreating to the shadows as we approached, and returning to feed within minutes of us leaving each time. Over the next three days, our cameras captured rare, intimate moments of a grizzly at his dinner table — raw, wild, and perfectly timed before the long winter ahead.
