The south breeze has already passed through. But somehow you're still awake, held by something you can't quite name. Cui Ping recorded this in 1957 — a song written by people who had already left one place and weren't quite sure the new one was home yet. The longing in the lyrics isn't only for a lover. It's for a version of life that's already slipping into the past. They were holding on to it the way you hold on to the last hour of a night you don't want to end.
