Hardneck Garlic vs. Elephant Garlic

Elephant garlic isn’t actually garlic—it’s named for its large, garlic-like bulbs. Although elephant garlic and true garlic are both members of the Allium genus, they are different species with different growth habits, flavours, and harvest timing. In fact, elephant garlic is more closely related to leeks than to hardneck or softneck garlic, which helps explain many of its unique characteristics. Have you ever tried growing elephant garlic? It’s definitely satisfying harvesting those big, fat heads!
