Motorhome owners often complain about poor radio reception. This is usually because the base vehicle is already equipped with an antenna, and the subsequent motorhome conversion negatively affects the mounting position. The antenna is often in a "radio shadow." Furthermore, not every antenna is perfect. Measurements taken on the vehicle reveal significant differences. Therefore, we only carry brand-name products developed and manufactured by European companies. They cost only a few euros more but are perfectly matched in terms of the radiator, amplifier, cable, and connector. How does an antenna work? A transmitting antenna converts the wired energy from the transmitter into an electromagnetic wave that propagates freely through space. A receiving antenna converts a tiny portion of this energy back into a wired wave and transmits it to the receiver. For optimal performance, either A) a dipole antenna (potential-free and works without a metal body) or B) a quarter-wave radiator (not potential-free and only works when mounted on a metal surface) must be installed. We recommend the following solutions: If you want the best reception, the antenna must be installed on the roof of your motorhome. If your roof is made of fiberglass, you will need to mount an antenna bracket, as shown here. We recommend stainless steel antenna brackets. They are a bit heavier than aluminum but don't weather as quickly. Theoretically, you can also mount the antenna on a metal foil or mesh. You just need to ensure proper electrical contact between the metal surface and the antenna base. If you also want to connect an internet router, we recommend our antenna brackets with two pre-drilled holes and space for two antennas.
