Preparing Splits for Grafted Queen Cells
Today I’m preparing splits that will receive my grafted queen cells in the next step of the queen rearing process. After harvesting the grafts, the next job is getting these splits ready so they can accept queen cells after 24 hours of being queenless. In this video, I pull resources from non-production colonies, set up the receiving splits, and walk through what I’m looking for as I prepare them for queen cell installation. This is part of my ongoing queen rearing series, following the full process from cell starter setup, to grafting, checking take rates, building finishing conditions, and preparing the splits that will become future colonies. If you’re raising queens or learning how to use grafted queen cells, this is an important step in the process. What you’ll see in this video: • Pulling splits for grafted queen cells • Choosing resources from other colonies • Preparing receiving hives for queen cell installation • Managing timing between grafting, finishing, and splits • Real-world queen rearing in my apiary 🐝 Subscribe and follow along as I continue this queen rearing series from grafting through cell installation and queen development. 2026 Channel Supporters: 🐝HiveAlive: Feed Supplement, Pollen Patties, Fondant and EZ feed bags: https://usa.hivealivebees.com?sca_ref...
