From 2001 to 2008, he served as mayor, then as mayor from 2008 onwards. In the state elections in September 2024, he won the direct mandate for the Free Voters in his constituency of Leipzig 3 and is now a member of the state parliament. In the newly elected state parliament, he is the deciding factor, securing a majority between the AfD and the CDU. In an interview with Ralf Schuler, he explains why he will remain non-partisan, how the CDU has betrayed the middle class, and why he considers this state to be in shambles.
