VC35 The Copper draws initial inspiration from the classic Vox AC amps from the late 1950s/early ’60s. The start point is chiming clean tones coupled with the rich harmonics, compression and bite of four EL84 power valves. Thereafter this amp heads into modern boutique land with bigger, fatter bass for glorious pushed clean and low-gain goodness, and on to full classic rock mode with plenty of rich, vocal overdrive. So please join Martin Kidd – chief designer at Victory – along with Mick Taylor (That Pedal Show) and Rabea Massaad (Toska) as we run through a selection of amp's sounds and key features. The VC35 is paired with the Victory V212-VB 2x12 speaker cabinet (one Celestion G12M Greenback and one G12H Anniversary), mic'd with a Sontronics Delta ribbon mic on the Greenback (top), plus mid-side stereo mics in the room. The guitars are a Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster (Martin); Fender American Vintage ’62 Stratocaster and Gretsch G6228 Player's Edition Jet BT (Mick); Fender Custom Shop Ltd Edition Double Esquire and Mayones Regius Core Classic V24 (Rabea). The on-screen captions indicate when pedals are used. There is a Boss DD-200 Delay and Meris Mercury 7 Reverb in the amp FX loop. We occasionally use a Hudson Broadcast Dual Overdrive – the on-screen captions make it clear when this is in use. The vast majority of the gain sounds are the amp alone.
