Episode # 5427 TALE OF THE CAYUSE Original airdate: 2-27-55 This is the enchanting story of how a woman’s love for her horse brings about an unexpected marriage proposal from a total stranger. Set in the backwoods Oregon wilderness during America’s early years, this episode stars Loretta Young as Natura, a young woman who loses her favorite 'cayuse', Ginger. When a stranger, played by Jock Mahoney, offers to find the horse for her his opinion about women is changed forever. Jock Mahoney was featured in several episodes in the early years of the series, but is best remembered for starring in his own two western television series; The Range Rider and Yancy Derringer - and playing Tarzan in two feature films. Mahoney also guest-starred in the Rawhide episode "Incident of the Sharpshooter" and appeared in television guest-starring roles on such series as Batman, the Ron Ely Tarzan series, Hawaii Five-O, Laramie, and The Streets of San Francisco. In 1973, he suffered a stroke at age 54 while filming an episode of Kung Fu, but recovered. He died of another stroke two days after being involved in an automobile accident in Bremerton, Washington in 1989 at the age of 70. His ashes were scattered into the Pacific Ocean. Mahoney was a stepfather of the actress Sally Field, scientist Richard Field, Dr. Carl Botefuhr, artist Angela Russell and author and artist Andrea von Botefuhr. Look for an appearance by Jeff Morrow, playing the part of Sam Ward. Morrow was educated at the Pratt Institute in his native New York City as a commercial artist prior to turning to acting. As early as 1927, aged 20, he acted onstage in such plays as Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth. He turned to film acting relatively late in his career, commencing with the Biblical epic The Robe in 1953. In television, he appeared on The Rifleman, Bonanza, My Friend Flicka, The Deputy, Daniel Boone, and Police Story. His last television role was in 1986, with a guest appearance in the second season of The Twilight Zone. Morrow died on December 26, 1993 in Canoga Park, California at age 86.
