As early as March–April, pairs start establishing themselves in nests and laying eggs. During this period, the birds are highly sensitive to human activity. If they are frightened away from the nest, they may abandon eggs or chicks, which then risk freezing to death or being taken by predators. The osprey is especially vulnerable In Norway, all birds of prey are protected, and it is illegal to disturb them during the breeding season. The Nature Diversity Act and regulations concerning vulnerable species make it clear that a safe distance must be kept from nesting sites. Violations can result in fines or legal penalties.
