Reefing While Sailing - Monohull (RAW Lesson)

Want to become a confident, calm, capable captain? Join my week-long, all-inclusive sailing courses in Croatia. We focus on real skills, real scenarios, and real confidence — not just a certificate. 👉 https://oranteach.com/ Most sailors wait too long to reef: • The boat heels too much • Crew gets nervous • Helm becomes heavy • Everything feels chaotic My courses fix that — with hands-on repetition, real drills, small teams, and the captain mindset: awareness, calm, good judgment, communication, safe habits. If you want a course that actually changes how you sail, come train with me. 🎥 Big thanks to the talented cameraman/sailor Sebastian Meza - check his stuff out in @chevimeza _____________________________________ About this lesson In this RAW lesson, the wind picked up while we were cruising on a monohull, the boat started heeling way too much, and it was time to reef — **right now**, not later. Instead of stopping, turning head-to-wind, or firing up the engine, we kept sailing under the headsail and did a clean, controlled reef on the main while underway. Here’s what you’ll see: • Why we chose to reef at that moment • How we stabilized the boat using only the headsail • Easing the main to luff it properly • Coordinating the halyard + reef line • Getting the new tack and clew seated cleanly • Bringing the sail back into shape • Sailing comfortably again with less heel and more control This is real-life reefing — the way cruising sailors actually do it when the wind sneaks up on you. ⏱️ Chapters 00:00 intro 01:26 explanation 05:20 execution 10:45 Final words _____________________________________ More ways to learn with me 🧭 My Sailing Courses (Croatia) https://oranteach.com/ 🎥 Daily sailing tips & raw clips Instagram: @oranteach 📝 Free resources, updates & newsletter https://oranteach.com/ _____________________________________ #reefing #monohull #sailinglesson #heeling #reefearly #rawlesson #oranTeach
