The previous episode focused on Samarkand, the most glorious stage of the Silk Road, while this episode focuses on Bukhara, a completely different experience—an ancient city that makes you slow down and want to stay for days. We spent four days in Bukhara's Old City and were lucky enough to catch the Bukhara International Biennale, filling the entire city with music and art! Sabrina, the daughter of our guesthouse owner, guided us through her hometown as a local: an ancient bank on the 14th-century Silk Road, a 16th-century Islamic school, a medieval public bathhouse hidden among the markets, and we even climbed the 3rd-century Ark for a panoramic view of the entire city. In the evening, we experienced Uzbekistan's unique "National House" culture—not a restaurant, but stepping into a local's home, watching the host cook pilaf with cottonwood branches, and enjoying a "mom's cooking" salad that touched us deeply.
