HONEY-SPICED ORANGES To SUBSCRIBE to Blue Feather Homestead for more videos like this & to turn on all notifications to see our newest videos Click here: / @bluefeatherhomestead RECIPE: HONEY ORANGE SLICES | BALL BOOK OF HOME PRESERVING 3 cinnamon sticks 1 1/2 tsp whole cloves 1 1/2 tsp whole allspice 2 1/2 pounds oranges, halved lenghtwise and thinly sliced, ends and seeds discarded Water 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar 1 1/4 cups liquid honey 3 tbsp lemon juice 1. Tie cinnamon stick pieces, cloves and allspice in a square of cheesecloth, creating a spice bag. set aside. 2. In a large stainless steel saucepan, combine oranges with water to cover. Bring to a boil over med high heat. Reduce heat and boil gently until peel is tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and set aside. 3. In a clean large stainless steel saucepan, combine sugar, honey and lemon juice. Bring to a boil over med high heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve sugar. Add reserved spice bag and oranges and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and gently boil until orange slices are well glazed, about 40 minutes. Discard spice bag. 4. Meanwhile prepare canner, jars and lids. 5. Using a slotted spoon, pack hot oranges into hot jars. leaving slightly more than 1/2 inch headspace. Ladle hot syrup into jar to cover oranges, leaving 1/2 inch headspace. Remove air bubbles and adjust headspace, if necessary, by adding hot syrup. Wipe rims. Center lids on jars. Screw band/ring down until resistance is met then increase to fingertip tight. 6. Place jars in canner, ensuring the are completely covered with water. Bring to a boil and process for 10 minutes.
