Leopoldo Miguez: Nocturno, Op.10 [1895]

Rather slow performance, but i like it like that, given the context of the piece, i.e., the accelerando in the middle section overall. (also try to close the eyes or not look at the score and imagine you are sitting in a concert hall, it makes sense I think, it's just a very soothing mood that's created (note also it's not only andante but also "sostenuto".)) In my opinion there are some nice ideas here, definitely, but i find some progressions and developments a bit forced and awkward. Still a good piece which deserves to be played in my opinion. It's especially nice since it's from a brazilian composer, a nationality I normally don't play or encounter that often. I found a small error and as always there might be more, but I hope I doesn't distract from the piece too much. Also I have to give a quick shoutout to that last chord before we arrive back in the tonic, F sharp major. It's d, b, e sharp, g double sharp, c sharp. What an exciting chord, I think I haven't heard that one too much! I think I couldn't even tell the exact function... it's like a major-minor chord with added sixth but in that context.. Miguez (1850-1902) was a Brazilian composer. Miguez was born in Niterói. He was known as a champion of the music of Richard Wagner. He also directed the "Instituto Nacional de Musica." He also wrote the music for Brazil's Hymn for the Proclamation of the Republic. He died in Rio de Janeiro. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A method to find scores:    • Where I get most of the scores for the cha...   My donation link to keep the channel growing: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/gamma...
