Hello everyone, This time, I'm speaking to you from Munich at Oktoberfest 🍻🎪 🥨 🇩🇪 Oktoberfest is both the world's largest beer festival and a massive folk festival showcasing Bavarian culture 🥳 Oktoberfest's history dates back to 1810. This tradition began as the wedding celebration of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig. Although 215 years have passed since the first celebration, this year marks the 190th anniversary of the festival due to pandemics like war and COVID-19. The ceremony begins with a parade in the morning. During this parade, Oktoberfest tent owners transport beer kegs to the Theresienwiese, the festival grounds, in horse-drawn carriages. The festival grounds are home to large beer halls, rebuilt annually, with tents called "Festzelt" that can accommodate thousands of people. Since 1950, at the opening of the Oktoberfest, at noon, the Mayor of Munich opens the first barrel of beer in the Schottenhamel tent on the Theresienwiese, declaring "O'zapft is!" (Bavarian for "The barrel is opened"). From that moment on, beer drinking is permitted. Oktoberfest takes place every year between late September and early October and lasts 16 to 18 days. More than 6 million visitors attend this festival annually. 📍 Things You Need to Know About Oktoberfest Beer is only allowed inside the tents. Otherwise, the police will intervene immediately. 🎪 The festival grounds are incredibly crowded on the first day. If you have time, you can enjoy the parade on the first day. If you want to sit in a tent at the festival site, you need to make a reservation months in advance. The giant Ferris wheel offers a view of the festival grounds from the top. The Bavaria Statue is another must-see attraction at the festival site. You can sit on the grass beneath this giant statue and catch your breath while watching the crazy crowds. Although the festival looks amazing, the reality is far different. During the parade, stressed horses defecate everywhere. The foul stench makes it really hard to stay there. The streets are washed away as soon as the parade is over. There are many drunks and people passing out in the festival area. Unfortunately, the incidents escalate at night. Dirty bottles everywhere create a rather unpleasant scene in the city. However, if you still want to experience it, I recommend going with a group of friends, not alone.
