Achara and Michael watch Bong Joon-ho's latest movie, Mickey 17 for the very first time! Based off the Edward Ashton novel of the same name, the movie follows Mickey Barnes, a disposable clone worker repeatedly dies and is regenerated while serving on a perilous space colonization mission, until a duplication error forces him to confront his own identity and the system that exploits him. The film was directed by Bong Joon Ho (Parasite, Snowpiercer, Okja) and stars Robert Pattinson (The Batman, Good Time, Tenet) as Mickey Barnes, the titular “Expendable.” Naomi Ackie (Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody, The End of the F*ing World, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) portrays Nasha, Mickey’s ally and love interest. Steven Yeun (Minari, Burning, The Walking Dead) appears as Timo, Mickey’s friend and fellow colonist. Toni Collette (Hereditary, The Sixth Sense, Knives Out) plays Ylfa, a high-ranking official in the colony, and Mark Ruffalo (Spotlight, The Avengers, Dark Waters) takes on the role of Kenneth Marshall, the authoritarian leader of the colonization effort. Together, they bring to life a darkly comedic and thought-provoking exploration of identity, labor, and resistance in a dystopian future.
