They experienced great success in Spain and Latin America, as well as in several European countries, including Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, France and Italy, becoming one of the most successful bands in the history of Spanish rock. After twelve years in which they sold over six million records in more than thirty-seven countries and performed over a thousand concerts, the band broke up in 1996. Their defining characteristics were a highly distinctive image, with unique iconography and symbolism, and music characterized by ambiguous and transcendental lyrics, intricate arpeggios, and a solid rhythmic foundation. Among their literary influences cited were writers such as William Blake and Charles Baudelaire, and among their musical influences, groups like Led Zeppelin and The Cult. In 2007, commemorating the twentieth anniversary of their first recordings and eleven years after their breakup, they announced their return with a ten-concert tour in Spain and Latin America, generically titled Héroes del Silencio Tour 2007. After the tour, they disbanded permanently. Their four studio albums have been included by the music magazine Al Borde in its list of the 250 best albums of all time. Among the best Ibero-American rock albums of all time are: Senderos de traición (No. 5), Avalancha (No. 35), El espíritu del vino (No. 117), and El mar no cesa (No. 119). Their song "Entre dos tierras" was considered by the online magazine Satélite Musical to be the nineteenth best song of all time in Hispanic rock. Rolling Stone magazine ranked them in 2012 as the second-best Spanish rock band in history. In 2007, they were honored by the record label EMI in recognition of their more than six million records sold, and also received the Ondas Special Jury Award. Enrique Ortiz de Landázuri Izarduy (Zaragoza, August 11, 1967), better known as Enrique Bunbury or simply Bunbury, is a Spanish singer, songwriter, and musician. He is best known as the lead singer of the band Héroes del Silencio. He began his musical career in the early 1980s, playing in the bands Apocalipsis, Rebel Waltz, Proceso Entrópico, Zumo de Vidrio, and Niños del Brasil, though his breakthrough came as the frontman of Héroes del Silencio, a highly successful band considered by many to be one of the best Spanish rock bands. After the band's breakup in 1996, he launched his solo career the following year, establishing himself as a major figure in the Spanish and Latin American music scene. The singer's solo career, unlike that of Héroes del Silencio, has been very different in terms of musical sound. While maintaining the essence of rock, he has experimented with various rhythms, such as electronic and Arabic music in his early days, then moved through cabaret, ranchera, blues, flamenco, and tango, and even referenced genres like salsa, milonga, bolero, and cumbia in one of his latest works, a tribute to Latin America. His album Flamingos ranks 81st on the list of "The 250 Best Ibero-American Rock Albums" published by the American magazine Al Borde, followed by Pequeño at number 154 and [another album title] at number 228.
