Heartbreak at the 1990 Le Mans 24 Hours for the Repsol Porsche team

The greatest endurance race in the world is the ultimate mix of high-speed action, drama and skill and the 1990 running of the Le Mans 24 hours race was no exception. But endurance racing is a true rollercoaster of emotions and in 1990, it was heartbreak for the Repsol-sponsored Brun Motorsport team, who entered a highly competitive Porsche 962C and drivers Oscar "Popi" Larrauri, Jesús Pareja and Walter Brun. The team drove a flawless race for nearly 24 hours, running close to the front and avoiding the various incidents and mechanical issues that plagued many other teams and in the closing stages, the Repsol-backed Porsche held a strong second position, seemingly assured of a podium finish. With only a quarter of an hour left, the car's engine dramatically blew out, coasting to a stop on the Mulsanne straight and the driver, a tearful Jesús Pareja, was forced to walk away from the stricken vehicle. The incident allowed the Silk Cut Jaguar team to secure a 1-2 victory, with the #3 Jaguar moving into the top spot and the Alpha Racing Team's Porsche inherited third place. You can experience all the highlights of this extraordinary Le Mans 1990 on DVD. Incredible footage brings you the full story of more than 2,800 miles of racing at the classic Circuit de la Sarthe as the Jaguars, Nissans and Porsches battled with each other. Among the major motorsport names which competed at the 1990 Le Mans, were greats like Derek Bell, Martin Brundle, Andy Wallace, Hans Joachim Stuck and many, many more.
