The Monterey Park Chamber of Commerce recently held a press conference to officially announce the relaunch of its scholarship beauty pageant, which had been dormant for 14 years, marking the return of this community tradition. This year's event focuses on leadership development, cultural pride, and youth empowerment, aiming to provide a platform for young women to showcase themselves, boost their confidence, and participate in the community. Chairwoman Tu Kemeng stated that the Chamber completed its restructuring in September 2025 and currently has 13 directors and 5 committees. It will continue to promote local business development and community connections. She emphasized that this pageant is not merely a competition, but a growth program combining scholarships, training, and community service. The pageant is divided into a Monterey Park teen/girl group (14-17 years old) and an adult group (18-28 years old), and will be held on October 10, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Courtyard by Marriott Monterey Park Hotel. Participants must reside, work, or attend school in Monterey Park, or have completed 5 hours of community service with the Chamber. The competition includes self-introduction, talent show, and an evening gown Q&A session. All participants have no prior beauty pageant experience and will receive eight weeks of training from August to September, covering topics such as catwalk skills, etiquette, interviewing, communication, and personal development. At the press conference, several chamber of commerce representatives, past contestants, mentors, and parents shared their experiences, stating that the program helps cultivate teenagers' public speaking abilities, self-confidence, and leadership. Mayor Yang Anli also appealed to all sectors of society to support the event through sponsorship, volunteering, and recommending participants, collectively helping the next generation of women grow.
