In this video, I take you to Mamacocha, a true hidden treasure in the Ayo district, Castilla province. This lagoon is surprising because its water springs from deep within the earth, feeding the Mamacocha River and giving life to the entire area. Located in the heart of the Valley of the Volcanoes, Mamacocha is a crystalline oasis surrounded by a dry and dramatic volcanic landscape. Here you'll have the opportunity to see Andean birds such as woodpeckers, dippers, chiguancos, and fruit eaters. It's also not uncommon to spot the shy local otters, called huallaques. Furthermore, this lagoon was declared a natural wonder by the Andean Community in June 2019, recognizing it as one of the largest and most unique springs in the world.
