Why the Innocent Can't Get Out of Prison

Nepal's legal system struggles with a number of issues that often lead to innocent people being convicted. Police investigations lack rigor and rely heavily on coerced confessions. Forensic evidence is rarely collected or analyzed properly. Legal aid is lacking, especially for the poor. The courts struggle with case backlogs, and judges often give in to political pressure. All of this means that even with the best of intentions, the system traps innocent people - ruining lives and undermining trust in the justice system.
