In Exodus chapter 34 the Lord passed by Moses while he was hidden in the cleft of a Rock and proclaimed His name, allowing Moses to see a glimpse of His glory. This event is filled with theological importance because Israel had fallen into apostasy in Exodus 32, the Lord had forgiven His people, and when He proclaimed His name, the Lord proclaimed more than His name, but that he was gracious, mercy, abounding in loving kindness, faithfulness, etc. Indeed, all that was proclaimed in Exodus 34 was manifested in the fullness manner when the father gave His only Son and manifested the eternal love of the Most Holy Trinity. Thus, the responsorial psalm comes from Dan chapter 3 and recounts to blessing of Daniel's three friends who were saved from the fire of a blazing furnace.
