The Ghan Departs Adelaide | NR19 & NR74 Assemble for the Journey North (20 May 2026)
Filmed on 20 May 2026, this video captures The Ghan departing Adelaide Parklands Terminal for its journey north to Alice Springs and Darwin, hauled by NR19 and NR74. The video begins at Adelaide Parklands Terminal, where the front half of the train departs Platform 2 before reversing back to connect with the second half waiting on Platform 1. The action then moves to the Sir Donald Bradman Drive bridge, showing the now fully assembled train leaving the terminal and heading toward the main line. A 4000 class EMU can also be seen passing on the Flinders/Seaford line. Finally, the camera looks north toward Mile End, where The Ghan pauses while a freight train clears the section ahead. Another freight train waits in the crossing loop to head north as well, making for a busy period of rail traffic through Adelaide’s inner west.
