Singkil by Leyte Dance Theatre
Performed for the Rock Churches Worldwide. Singkil (originally Sayao sa Kasingkil) is an ethnic dance of the Maranao people of Mindanao, Southern Philippines. It narrates the love story of Putri Gandingan and her rescuer, Prince Bantugan when she was lost in an enchanted forest. Even though the Maranaos are Moros (a Malay Muslim ethnic group), the dance is based on an episode of Darangen epic, which was a reinterpretation of the Hindu Ramayana.
