This species is earthy brown, sometimes blending in with the surrounding ground. It has distinctive grayish-brown stripes above and white below, and a large black spot on the side of its chest. It has a white supercilium. Its wings are broad but rather short, dark below, and its tail is short and edged with white. The Calandra Lark's song is a slower version of that of its relative, the skylark. This bird prefers to migrate, moving further south in winter, as far as the Arabian Peninsula and Egypt.
