KOMPAS.TV - The end of the school holidays has been accompanied by a rise in chicken prices in Surabaya, East Java. This price increase has been complained about by both traders and buyers. At Soponyono Traditional Market in Rungkut, Surabaya, the price of chicken has now reached IDR 36,000 per kilogram. Previously, during the school holidays and the Free Nutritional Meals (MBG) program, the price of chicken was between IDR 32,000 and IDR 33,000 per kilogram. This price increase has impacted chicken sales. Some buyers have decided to reduce their purchases, resulting in a decrease in vendors' turnover. Not only in Surabaya, vendors and residents in Bandung, West Java, have also complained about the rising prices of chicken, eggs, and several other basic necessities since the resumption of school. At Sederhana Market in Bandung, the price of chicken is currently at IDR 36,000 per kilogram. According to vendors, the price of chicken dropped drastically to IDR 26,000 per kilogram during the school holidays. Meanwhile, the price of chicken eggs rose by Rp 2,000 to Rp 26,000 per kilogram. During the school holidays, egg prices had reached Rp 18,000 per kilogram. Significant increases were also seen in vegetables, particularly cucumbers and long beans.
