Ngerebeg Ceremony of Desa Adat Kediri: Kuningan Day Pilgrimage to Pakendungan Temple

Desa Adat Kediri & Pakendungan Temple. Kuningan Day, Saturday, 27 June 2026. Kuningan Day is one of the most sacred holy days observed by the Balinese Hindu community. In Kediri Village, Tabanan, Bali, our community continues the long-standing tradition of Ngerebeg—a ceremonial walk of around 10 kilometres from Puri Kediri to Pakendungan Temple. This tradition has been faithfully observed every six months for more than two centuries, ever since the sacred heirloom kris, Ki Baru Gajah (Ida Panembahan Sakti), was entrusted to Puri Kediri. Before the pilgrimage begins, a special ceremony is held to bring Ida Panembahan Sakti down from its sacred shrine within Puri Kediri. The procession then makes its way to Panti Temple before continuing towards Pakendungan Temple. Before reaching Pakendungan Temple, the procession stops at Dangin Bingin Temple, where another ceremonial ritual is performed. These stops are an important part of the spiritual journey, honouring the sacred traditions that have been passed down through generations. On this Kuningan Day, Banjar Delod Puri Kediri has the honour and responsibility of accompanying this deeply revered sacred kris throughout the procession—a duty that is regarded as both a privilege and a profound spiritual commitment by the local community.
