Yorkshire Gold vs Red tea taste test
Side-by-side comparison of Yorkshire Gold tea and Yorkshire Red tea (the regular tea). There is not that much difference. Gold is noticeably smoother with a slightly cooler mouth feel, but the flavour is essentially the same. Red has a slight "rasp" which may be more desirable for those wanting a good Builder's tea hit. Neither tea is "bitter" even brewed with 100c water. Both varieties are very rich and rounded, which is why this is such a popular tea. I suspect the type of water you use (hard or soft), the kind of milk and the quantity of sugar would mask these subtle differences even more. Not to mention the brewing time. In conclusion: no one will ever guess if you decide save about 60p on a box of 80 teabags (going by Morrisons full pricing as of Jan 2021, Tescos appears to be out of stock of the Red) and serve them the cheaper one. You could also drink Gold yourself while you serve your mates Red, and they will never know.
