Being Ukrainian Living in Ireland | Ireland AM

Muireann and Tommy are joined by Sean Pollock and Anna Koloskova to talk about being Ukrainian and living in Ireland. Sean's grandfather fled Ukraine and moved to the UK after World War 2 and his family have kept their Ukrainian heritage strong ever since. Anna is from Ukraine and is living in Ireland at the moment. She has been in contact with friends and family back home. She tells Muireann and Tommy that Ukrainians have been preparing for this situation for eight years. Sean tells Muireann and Tommy that his family living in Ukraine had to seek shelter from bombs in the basement of their apartments. He has not heard from that side of the family since yesterday morning. Muireann asks Sean if he is hopeful with peace talks between Ukraine and Russia in the works in Belarus. Sean believes that President Vladimir Putin wanted to enforce a puppet government in Ukraine but states that of course, you have to have hope in these situations. Tommy asks Anna what it was like being at the protests outside the Russian Embassy. She says she feels the empathy and understanding of the Irish people. She draws a comparison to the Ukraine situation and the beginning of World War 2. She believes that if Ukraine is taken, President Vladimir Putin will continue this regime.
