Lewis & Clark Boathouse & Museum — Inside the Corps of Discovery | St. Charles Missouri

Join us for an immersive tour of the Lewis & Clark Boathouse and Museum in historic St. Charles, Missouri — the very departure point where William Clark and the Corps of Discovery docked in May 1804, waiting for Meriwether Lewis before launching their legendary 8,000-mile journey west to the Pacific. Thanks to museum tour leader Ed, we received special access to the replica keelboat and pirogues — built by the reenactment group for the bicentennial and used for a day-by-day recreation of the entire expedition. Ed shares fascinating details about river travel, boat construction, and the incredible challenges the Corps faced navigating a Missouri River that averaged just 18 inches deep in many sections. Inside the museum we explore highly detailed dioramas of the expedition, the story of Sacagawea and her crucial role as peacekeeper and guide, bull boats crafted from willow and buffalo hide, geology exhibits revealing the ancient Missouri River Valley, historic dugout canoes, wildlife displays of species documented for the first time by Lewis and Clark, and frontier cabin models of early St. Charles. A truly immersive journey through one of the most ambitious expeditions in American history. 📸 Every photo in this video was captured by Roedy.
