The Historical Archaeology of Halifax’s Earliest Defences
Halifax, Nova Scotia, is one of Canada's oldest cities. When it was founded in 1749, it was provided with a wooden wall and five perimeter forts. All have disappeared. In this presentation to the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), archaeologist Dr. Jonathan Fowler reviews historical evidence for the defensive circuit and describes how archaeologists are using geographic information systems and remote sensing to search for their remains. This video was recorded on April 24, 2024, using an Insta360 X3 camera. It offers an abridged version of the original presentation.
