Perché lo sciame è partito se l’alveare sembrava normale?

Why does a colony of bees suddenly leave the hive, even though a few days earlier everything seemed normal? This is the question at the heart of the video. Many beekeepers know that feeling well: you arrive at the apiary, look at the hive entrances, and a colony looks different. The flight is weaker, the buzzing is less intense, the activity in front of the hive entrance is more subtle. Then you open the hive, check the frames, and you realize that something has truly changed. There are fewer bees than expected. The old queen is gone. And on the edge of a frame you find a capped queen cell. But the most important point is this: the decision wasn't made the moment the swarm left. It wasn't even made that morning. Often the decision began seven, eight, or even ten days earlier, with an almost invisible signal: the queen laid an egg inside a small queen cup. From the outside, the colony continued to appear normal. The bees were collecting pollen, building wax, feeding the brood, and walking on the combs. But inside the hive, another plan had already begun. In this video, we don't just observe the spectacular moment when thousands of bees emerge from the hive and fill the air. We especially observe the silent signals that arrive beforehand. We talk about the royal cups, the queen cells with eggs, the increase in drones, the overflowing brood nest, the bees remaining still on the edges of the frames, and the capped queen cell, which can indicate that the swarm's departure is about seventy hours away. We also see what happens to the old queen. A queen who has been laying mostly eggs for months must regain her weight and become light enough to fly. The nurse bees feed her less, her abdomen shrinks, and she becomes more adept at flight. Meanwhile, the colony may seem calmer. Fewer foragers emerge than usual, many bees remain inside, and the hive almost seems to be waiting. For those unsure of what to look for, everything may seem simply calm. The last twenty-four hours are particularly important. Many bees may gather outside the hive, near the entrance. Sometimes it's simply warm. But other times it's a sign of impending swarming. Some bees fan with their wings and spread scents that help orient the others. Scout bees return more frequently after searching for possible new homes. Then comes a warm, calm morning, with little wind, and everything happens in a matter of minutes. 00:00 - The moment the beekeeper realizes something's wrong 01:10 - Fewer bees on the frames and the missing queen 02:20 - Why the decision had begun many days earlier 03:10 - Royal cups and the first hidden egg 04:20 - More drones, little space, and the first silent signals 05:40 - The capped queen cell and the last seventy hours 06:50 - How the old queen is prepared for flight 07:50 - Bees at the entrance - heat or imminent swarming? 08:50 - Scout bees, scent signals, and preparation 09:50 - The morning of swarming and the cloud of bees 10:40 - The lesson: big changes begin in silence This video is intended for those who want to better understand natural swarming and learn to read the hive before the final moment. Because when you see the swarm in the air, you're not seeing the decision. You are seeing the execution of a decision made days before.
