Liam Clancy - Ballyvoile (Recorded for 'Stop, Look and Listen' by Michael Fortune)
This song remembers a local Volunteer Jack Cummins who was killed nearby during an ambush in the War of Independence on the 6th of June 1921. This song was written by Jack Daly, the grandfather of English singer Kate Bush. Kate's mother, Hannah was born just across the valley from this location and her grandfather wrote many local songs. .............................. Stop, Look and Listen is a project by Michael Fortune which explores the local traditional songs associated with places along the new Waterford Greenway. Users of the new Greenway which connects Waterford City to Dungarvan will be greeted along the route with signs which will encourage them to take out their smart phones and ‘Stop, Look and Listen’ to specific traditional songs from this part of County Waterford. The project was commissioned by The Heritage Office of Waterford City and County Council.
