Osmium Quartet: Shaw, Punctum
Osmium Quartet, McGill University Schulich School of Music, Montreal, Canada Caroline Shaw Punctum About the Lift Every Voice Prize: As part of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, all senior division ensembles are required to submit at least one complete work by a historically underrepresented composer in the chamber music world. The annual Lift Every Voice Prize celebrates the work of historically underrepresented composers and is meant to amplify their voice and provide a larger platform and opportunity for their work to be heard. The Prize is awarded to one Senior Division Strings ensemble and one Senior Division Winds ensemble for the best performance of a piece by a historically underrepresented composer. The Fischoff National Chamber Music Association is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that relies completely on the support of kind volunteers and generous donors. With the help of people like you, Fischoff can continue to promote a passion for chamber music, expanding the canon, and amplifying the voice of underrepresented composers. Mission: In 1973, Joseph E. Fischoff and other members of the South Bend Chamber Music Society wanted to encourage young people to pursue chamber music study and performance in an innovative way. They came up with the idea of a competition, and that first year, six ensembles participated. Little did the society members know how their idea would grow. Today, fifty-three years later, the Fischoff Competition is the world's largest chamber music competition, still held in South Bend, Indiana. Every year, around 135 ensembles from 30 countries enter either the strings or winds categories, each with three to six performers. Since its inception, over 8,000 musicians have participated, many of whom have gone on to successful careers in music performance and education. The Fischoff is committed to music education and uniquely partners with competition alumni to provide free, innovative music programs directly to children in their own schools and community centers. These programs, known as the Fischoff Arts-in-Education Residency, have served nearly 104,000 community children since 1995 and reach more than 4,000 underserved and at-risk young people every year.
