The 14th-century Château Grimaldi, built on the old Greek acropolis, hosted Pablo Picasso in autumn 1946. He produced 23 paintings and 44 drawings there in two months and gifted them to the city. The castle became the Musée Picasso on December 27, 1966 — the first museum in the world dedicated to the artist.
