The Beautiful Bow Falls & River, Banff, Alberta

As we hear on the news about the high streamflow advisory issued for Bow River communities due to snowmelt, we thought we'd share a video from our visit to the Bow Falls in Banff about 2 weeks ago. Bow Falls is a 9-meter (30 ft) waterfall just 1km (under a mile) from downtown Banff. Visiting the falls is free and there is free parking however it fills quickly with tourists and tour buses on fine days and the high season. Photographers love this spot, as do people going rafting or on "float tours" down the Bow River. There are trails for walkers, bikers, and horse riding. Be aware that in late spring, some trails may be closed due to high water levels. In winter, proper hiking boots with crampons are recommended. And, as always in the Rocky Mountains, respect the wildlife and be aware of your surroundings and be properly prepared when hiking in bear and cougar country.
