Bricola, Puerto Rico's top hope, finished in second place, and the other Puerto Rican filly, Quimera, came in third, completing a strong performance for the Puerto Rican contingent in the race. My Own Business broke somewhat late and ran seventh until the final 1,000 meters, when his jockey, Emisael Jaramillo, began urging him on and gaining positions. With about 600 meters to go, the Venezuelan colt overtook Quimera to take the lead and go on to win the race. Bricola, who was running tenth with 800 meters to go, made a strong move and, after overtaking Quimera, closed the gap on My Own Business to finish about four and a half lengths behind the winner. My Own Business clocked 1:51.76 for the distance, in a race where fractional times were 23.48, 47.53, 1:12.47, and 1:38.50. The other Venezuelan representative in the race, Vuelve Jorge, finished fourth, followed by the Colombian filly Kanaí and the Dominican filly Rio Camú. In seventh place came the Puerto Rican colt Borinquen, followed by the Colombian Milenium, the Puerto Rican Bad Dancer, the Ecuadorian El Niño, the Panamanian Furor, and the Panamanian Mariano R. With this victory, My Own Business earned a prize of $147,900, while the filly Bricola added another $51,000 to her already successful career.
